Treasure Rescues - Spring Themed

Once I get over the novelty of being home with no deadlines

I'll stop swannning around looking for inspiration on

and driving around trawling op shops for my next project

while I enjoy waiting for that to happen
here's some of my latest
Op Shop Treasure Rescues

I noticed there was a definate
Springy Floral theme running through most of my aquisitions this week

which after all the rain we've had lately
was a nice reminder that it is Spring

the best time of year.

Before I go I'd just like to thank you for your kind words and supportive comments on my last post
both here and on facebook

Stella appreciated them very much. x

Sally in the Studio by Stella

The youngest is 12
and in her last year of Primary School

she's always had her sights set on a particular High School which offers a fantastic range of Academic & Art focused Specialist Programs
and because it's not in our school zone
the only way for her to gain access to this top ranked secondary school was
if we sold up & moved

or she produced a jaw-dropping-knock-their-socks-off Portfolio

so she set about doing just that
armed with a borrowed camera & tripod and little-to-no knowledge of movie making

and it worked

this is one of the short stop-go movies she created which got her in....

to say we're proud is an understatement

I don't talk much about family stuff on here
and if it wasn't for the fact that Stella shot this in my sewing Studio
 using my REinventing Samples
I wouldn't be sharing the video

in doing so I'd also like to share that
the road to this point has been paved with pot holes
even though this child was born with a smile on her face
[I know this because you only see her dimple when she smiles]
she has suffered her own demons over the past few years
and to see her take control of her destiny
and set her own course is all we could have hoped for
and

to say we're proud
is an understatement.

Creations - Some of Them

It's always a little sad when it comes to the end of a Term

not just because we say adieu

also because the images I take of everyones creations fall way short
of what I know was acheived

a mosaic is only a glimpse

there's no photos of
Inges tea frock or the gifted jigsaw jacket
she made for her sons girl friend

you also don't get a look at Reggies colourful quilts or perfect-for-summer frocks

Sues change of heart skirt isn't here
or all the baby stuff she's been making for her & Reggies new business

I'm pretty sure Ellie may have snuck in another change of heart skirt
along with all the REinventions

and poor Nilda didn't even make it in the team photo
she finished her first ever semi lined summer frock
and took it with her to Europe before the end of Term

I too have missed out
there's no evidence of the tea frocks or REinventions
completed by moi this Term

the weather has been less than conducive to outdoor photo sessions
so am blaming it on the weather

Treasure Rescue - Secrets

The tipping point for me
when deciding whether or not to rescue treasure
can sometimes be what's revealed on the 'wrong' side

fabric can be much nicer when flipped over

garments, especially knitwear if pilled, can look way better when turned inside out

and other items when turned backwards
will sometimes reveal their secrets

as was the case with this framed rose tapestry

after bargaining the price down to an almost acceptable amount
I discovered evidence of Providence on the back
which was all I needed to make my mind up
gladly handing over the cash

Framing & Tapestry by Evelyn Turner [Auntie Eve] for our 40th Wedding Anniversary July 31st 1985

this pretty Orchid Petit Point Tapestry
was another lovely surprise

so beautifully hand stitched
it wasn't until I looked on the back
that I realised she wasn't in fact a piece of framed fabric

I am very pleased to be able to offer
Auntie Eves thoughtful gift & the hand stitched Orchids
a new home
along with all the other orphans
adorning the walls
they will be admired for many years to come
before being rescued [I have no doubt] by someone else
just as appreciative as I
