Fashion Talk #2

The Photographer stayed home, too sick to get out of bed, so Stella put her hand up to be offical photographer on the night.
Needless to say, at 8, her photographic skills, combined with my little (lousy) digital camera were never going to produce images at Dans level.

I do like this one where she has captured that grin of Elizas, which at 16 we don't seem to see alot of these days.
After editing out the ones with my mouth open (of which there were a lot!), close ups of buttons, my boots, backs of heads and some that were unrecognisable, this is what is left.
A shame as there was a significant crowd, more than last, not bad for word of mouth. I can report that it was another great night with comments written on the evaluation sheets like
Inventive
Exceptional
Inspiring
& better than expected.
I do need to work on presentation as I did talk for an hour and half, which was too long. There is so much to take in that I think it can be overwhelming for some.
This time I did mingle more with the girls after the talk advising on what could be done with their garment choices, which I enjoyed and I know they all appreciated.
The Store did well, taking more in an hour than they do in a day...again!

A big thankyou to Jo - she took charge of meeting & greeting, ticking off names & keeping Stella busy which allowed me the freedom to focus on the Talk. Also my apologies to the RE-inventors in the audience, for not getting them to stand up for show-&-tell!

Be careful what you wish for!

Dan always wanted a Mercedes.

At 5:30 this morning we had one arrive via our front fence and gates.
No-one was hurt but my beautiful red gate is smashed to smithereens!

Two young blokes sitting in the front, off their faces (he blew .15), driver un-licensed reckons "I was driving really well until I blinked".

The tyre marks indicate he was traveling backwards at an angle across the verge. There's no evidence of any braking, rather it was the fence, gates and posts that stopped him.

He hit them so hard the badges on the back of the Merc flew off into the scrub!

Dans car is also worse off for the experience, damaged by flying debris and showered with dirt. There was a foot of dirt and debris in the trailer even before we started cleaning up!

We know it could have been worse, there are a thousand scenarios that keep playing out in your head...what if Steves new twin cab ute had still been parked on the verge....what if someone had been walking past....what if they'd hit it front on - YUK!

If all I've got to lament is my once beautiful now smashed to smithereens red gate it's a good day!

UP-DATE
It turns out there could be a casualty - they ran over my red flowering gum sapling and striped it of most of its foliage - but it's still standing, so fingers crossed for a full recovery!

Wishful Thinking?!

My family have gone fishing.
Thinking the cupboards would be in today was wishful thinking.
Instead of sorting through these bins working out what's staying and what's not I'm sitting here writing this, wondering how to fill this quiet, peaceful, beautiful autumn day all by myself....

I'm thinking that after sneaking one more look on ebay I'll make a bowl of my favourite soup for lunch, which I'll savour slowly while browsing through a craft mag one of my girls lent me, before maybe reading some of my book, with some domestic duties thrown in just so I don't forget myself completely, I'll then await my families return with dinner - going from past experience that too could be wishful thinking.

As I'm desperate to share what's happening in the studio I've included some shots to give you an idea of progress (hi mum!), titled 'Never Again' & 'At the Moment' with 'Now' to follow very soon!

Pavlova & Felt

This isn't my first nuno felted piece however it is my first attempt at felting a garment.
It was a very large silk shirt (size 18) which is now a snug jacket (size 12-14).
It was a messy & fiddly job but then what felting isn't and anything worthwhile is worth the effort.
I'm not over the moon with the outcome so far however I have plans to free machine embroider into sections of it - when I get my studio back!
That plain background will become cupboards over the weekend...
The skirt however is another story - love at first sight!
It was pants, RE-invented in the standard way however I obtained my desired length by securing sections around the bottom by stitching in tucks. These tucks form gorgeous folds like pavlova - which is why I officially christen this the 'Pavlova Effect'.

There are more images over at RE-invented Garments - I apologise for the quality, they're not the best - I need a new camera!

Proud

I'm proud of her because she was chosen to recite the Anzac Ode in front of the school & parents, having practiced for 2 days until she knew it word perfect.

I'm proud of her school for recognising & acknowledging the girl we know & love

and I'm proud of me for not settling for second best, for kicking up a stink until we found her the school she deserves and that deserves her.

The ANZAC Ode

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old

Age will not weary them nor
The years condemn

At the going down of the sun and
In the morning

We will remember them.
