Basic & Beyond Creations - Term 1

Not everyone that joins us at the Studio for the

has ever sewn before

*
*
some haven't sewn for a very long time

*
*
and others sew all the time and come along wishing to enhance & stretch existing skills

and every Term
I'm excited to see who & what walks through the doors

because as different as everyones expectations are
the reality that we are all innately creative
means everyone is here for the same reason

and sometimes that's got little to do with sewing
and everything to do with connecting, sharing & discovering.....

while creating great stuff to wear and use

and sometimes you get to eat cake too!

Term 2 Workshops - Up for Grabs

I don't mean to bark on about the same workshop
especially since it's now full
however the Jigsaw Jacket is just a little bit too gorgeous not to show-off  share one last time...

that is
until I get to share with you what everyone else creates during the workshops.

With Term 1 coming to an end this weekend
I'm bursting to share what's been created within these 4 walls over the past 8wks
and will do this by way of the mosaics I share at the end of each Term -

you can always sneak a peak over on Flickr if you can't wait...

and with

Jigsaw Jacket Workshop

So far I've created two

Jigsaw Jackets

the idea being to showcase
how they're a wonderful way to play with colour texture & pattern
and how much fun it is to mix garments with fabric....

Only 2 spots left if you're interested in joining us.

Op Shop Rescues :: Compliments

Over 20yrs ago I used to create garments from vintage bedspreads & curtains

and sell them

the only thing that has changed is I don't sell garments anymore
instead I sell time, space & knowledge in the form of workshops

I haven't sold a garment in over12yrs
[these days I use my children to gauge time]

so

I take it as a compliment
when I see one of my creations hanging in an Op Shop

so far it's happened 3x in the last couple of years
and on 2 of those occasions I've rescued them.

This brocade Vest is over 20yrs old
I know this because I was creating these just before I fell pregnant with Eliza

and she'll be 21 in June.

It was hanging on the 'Designer Rack'
and after I told the Manager my tale
she sold it to me for $2.

This barkcloth Jacket was a custom order -
I remember the client didn't want studs on the breast pockets.

Fortuitously I walked into the Op Shop
[one I don't frequent]
just as the Jacket had been hung up
and walked out with it for the princely sum of $5.

On an Op-shopping excursion while Regina was visiting from Victoria
we popped into one of her x-locals
and discovered this Pearl Jacket.

It had been created 15yrs ago from vintage curtains that Regina had given me

and it wasn't Reginas cos she's still got hers!

This one I didn't rescue
so I hope she found a good home and is treasured.

Studio Snapshot :: Rainy Days

It started raining today
and doesn't look like stopping.

Thankfully that wasn't the case yesterday avo
when a few yarns were shared under the Jacaranda
with two of the most important people in my life
before they choofed off to far flung destinations

however rainy weather is always the perfect environment
to source fresh fabrics for a new project -
I'm thinking a tweedy Jigsaw Jacket with hints of Doily & maybe leather buttons...

What's on Sally :: REinventors Fave Colour

If there were a REinventors uniform
it would be green

just like cars go faster when they're red
REinventors love to create with green.

The Wrap Dress which Sally is wearing,
just like the Cape, has sat quietly waiting for her time in the sun.

She was created very early in my REinventing teaching career [approx. 10yrs ago]
by combining a too small frock with a bias cut skirt
the cinched in waist with covered button side opening
was once the bottom of a T-shirt.

and it doesn't seem to matter what I put the Tie Rose Bib with
- it goes with everything.

Have you noticed that when REinventing
the colour palettes you're drawn toward
tend to compliment & co-ordinate with one another ...

and that green features heavily in your wardrobe.

Studio Snapshots

The Studio - sitting pretty in the Autumn garden.
Dan built her 10yrs ago so that we could both move our home-based businesses out of the house.
About 2 years ago he moved his business to other premises so I could bring the workshops home

and the rest like they say is history.

Work in Progress - pretty much looks like this and worse Monday thru Wednesday.

Waiting Room - if I was generous I'd say she only ever looks like this
an hour before everyone arrives - in realty it's closer to 15mins.

Engine Room - where the magic happens Thursday thru Saturday....along with the

Saturday avo Basic & Beyond Workshop - l-r Fleur, Charles, Judith & Jenn

Utility Room - where we iron & overlock
and where I store & display some of my bits & bobs.

She's a special space full of good energy
because of the lovely people that walk in the door
attracted to the style of creating I encourage

...I'm a lucky girl!

What Thrills Me

The biggest thrill I get
 doing what I do

is so simple it's silly

smiles

when someone walks into a class
wearing a garment they have created with my help
beaming with pride & a sense of acheivement

it feels good

Charles in his better-than-a-bought-one James Dean Jacket...& shirt.

and when they walk in wearing a replica of the garment they created the week before
because their daughter kidnapped the original

 it feels very good

Jenn in her Liza Top

and it's extremely rewarding when I start to notice
someone creating garments I want to wear

Judith wearing her first Apron Wrap.

and I've decided I like short dark brown hair.

Work in Progress :: New Workshop

There's a new workshop on the Website

it's callled the
Jigsaw Jacket

and
at the moment my sample is a
work in progress

but it's going to look something like this

and the Studio
after days of playing with & cutting up knitwear
is looking like this.

I mentioned the workshop to a few people
and already the Friday classes are FULL

which leaves Saturdays
if you're interested in creating a custom fit jeans styled Jacket

in your choice of colour, texture & pattern combinations
in time to brighten up Winter
pop over to the Creative Pods Website for details
and send me an Inquiry Form if you want more information or to book in...
