She ticks all the boxes;
quick to create
easy to wear
simple to REinvent with.....
which came in handy on Wednesday!

Bodice cut from the back of a linen shirt, the bottom section from a bias cut linen dress & the neck edge is finished with a mens tie. The crochet cardy is a REinvention from a couple of years ago. |
On Monday I said yes to a request from the local paper asking if they could send their photographer out on Wednesday to take some photos of me in the Studio for an up & coming issue.
I then had a couple of anxious days deciding whether I should dye my hair pink or make a pink frock.
Wednesday morning I opted for the frock which thankfully took a couple of hours to create - in plenty of time for the photoshoot.

Having my photo taken these days is a bit like flying, I used to not think twice about doing either but now both make me nervous.
Flying because I'm at an age where I realise I'm mortal and
photos because I no longer dye my hair.
photos because I no longer dye my hair.
The decision to stop dying & styling my hair was a conscious one I made months ago and the only time I doubt following my head instead of my heart is when I see a photo.
Oddly I don't feel any older than 28 but I look it
which is fine as long as I avoid reflective surfaces & cameras - that's not entirely true, I actually like the silvery highlights I'm developing, what I have trouble with is the image I protray and the expectations that perhaps some have of me, being that I am in the industry where image is everything!
I avoid the term fashion as much as possible because any sewing I do has nothing to do with being fashionable and everything to do with being comfortable with who you are - no matter what age.
Unfortunately we live in an ageist society where growing old is to be avoided or ignored at all costs.
I'm not a fan of getting older but what do you do.... it's part of living and I've decided to embrace my body as it ages instead of fight it because I'm far too busy living to have the time & money to waste on a battle I'm never going to win.
Having said that the article has yet to go to print which could see me reassessing everything I just wrote.....but I doubt it!

Good for you - I know exactly what you mean - I haven't taken the leap yet - still dyeing my hair - cute dress - I'm sure you're article will be a hit!
ReplyDeleteHi Jody
ReplyDeleteCan't tell you how many compliments I get about my silver hair streaked through my dark! (You've seen it. Been 'graying' since my late 30s.)
Have always been bone idle lazy about doing hair, much less colouring it. Life is too short!
You won't regret it! Just resist re-colouring as that's the hardest bit - growing out the 1/2 colour.
